The Porsche 991.1 Carrera S (2012-2016) represents the final generation of naturally aspirated base-level 911 models before Porsche adopted turbocharging across the entire Carrera range. The Carrera S features a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 400 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 324 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque, paired with either a 7-speed manual transmission or PDK dual-clutch automatic. With PDK and Sport Chrono Package, the Carrera S achieves 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds in Sport Plus mode, representing exceptional performance for a naturally aspirated engine.
The 991 generation introduced significant technical advances including an aluminum-steel composite body construction, electromechanical power steering (replacing hydraulic), longer wheelbase for improved stability, wider rear track, and comprehensive electronics including active engine mounts and optional rear-wheel steering. The Carrera S included larger brakes, wider rear wheels and bodywork compared to base Carrera models, along with active suspension management (PASM) and sport exhaust. The naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six delivered a linear power build to its 7,400 rpm peak, providing the characteristically responsive throttle and high-revving nature that enthusiasts prize. The 991.1 Carrera S has become particularly collectible as the last naturally aspirated 911 Carrera S, offering classic Porsche driving character before the 991.2 facelift introduced turbocharged 3.0-liter engines across the range. Values have remained strong for well-maintained examples, particularly manual transmission models.
