Cadillac
CTS-V Mk1
Notes
The first-generation Cadillac CTS-V (2004-2007) represents Cadillac's entry into the high-performance luxury sedan segment, directly challenging BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. The original CTS-V features a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 engine (the same powerplant from the C5 Corvette Z06) producing 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque in 2004-2005 models, upgraded to the larger 6.0-liter LS2 V8 producing 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft for 2006-2007 model years. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through either a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic.
Performance figures include 0-60 mph in approximately 4.7 seconds and quarter-mile times in the high 12-second range, with top speed electronically limited to 163 mph. The CTS-V featured comprehensive performance upgrades including Brembo brakes, sport-tuned suspension, limited-slip differential, and 18-inch wheels. The naturally aspirated pushrod V8 delivers linear power with characteristic American V8 torque and a distinctive exhaust note. Weighing around 3,850 pounds, the first-generation CTS-V offered V8-powered rear-drive performance, manual transmission availability, and relative affordability compared to European competitors. The car garnered critical acclaim for delivering genuine M5-rivaling performance at significantly lower cost, establishing Cadillac's credibility in the performance sedan market and paving the way for more powerful second and third-generation CTS-V models featuring supercharged LSA and LT4 engines producing over 550 and 640 horsepower respectively.
