Camaro RS 327

Note

The Chevrolet Camaro RS 327, produced from 1967 to 1969 during first-generation Camaro production, combines Rally Sport appearance package with 327 cubic inch V8 engine available in two output levels. The base 327 Turbo-Fire V8 with 8.75:1 compression ratio produces 210 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 320 lb-ft torque at 2,400 rpm, while optional L30 high-performance 327 with 10.0:1 compression delivers 275 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 355 lb-ft torque at 3,200 rpm. Both engines feature 4.00-inch bore and 3.25-inch stroke with four-speed manual transmission standard and three-speed automatic optional. The Rally Sport package adds hidden headlights with horizontally retractable doors behind grille, revised taillights with backup lights under rear bumper, RS badging, and bright exterior trim.

Introduced in fall 1966 for 1967 model year as Chevrolet answer to Ford Mustang, the first-generation Camaro established platform that would become American performance icon. The RS package could be ordered on any Camaro model, providing distinctive appearance upgrades while 327 V8 offered compelling balance of performance and reliability between base six-cylinder and big-block 396 options. The 327 engine was replaced late in 1969 by 307 cubic inch V8, making earlier 327-equipped models particularly desirable among collectors. The combination of Rally Sport styling distinction, proven 327 small-block performance, and first-generation Camaro classic proportions makes the RS 327 sought-after variant representing muscle car era affordable performance and style.
