La BMW M240i F22 rappresenta il culmine dell'evoluzione della coupé compatta di seconda generazione Serie 2 introdotta nel 2016 sostituendo la designazione M235i attraverso miglioramenti completi del gruppo motopropulsore fornendo 340 cavalli dal sei cilindri in linea B58 turbocompresso stabilendo credibilità di prestazioni colmando il divario tra la 230i standard e le varianti M2 complete. Il sei cilindri in linea B58 turbocompresso da 3,0 litri produce 340 cavalli a 5.500 giri/min con 369 libbre-piedi di coppia da 1.520 a 4.500 giri/min. Il restyling LCI 2017 ha portato design esterno raffinato attraverso fari LED aggiornati con firma luci diurne esagonali sostituendo elementi circolari precedenti. La produzione si è conclusa nel 2021 con la Serie 2 G42 di terza generazione che adotta aggiornamenti di piattaforma evolutivi, mentre gli esempi F22 M240i mantengono forti valori di mercato usato che variano da $25.000 a $45.000.
