The BMW E30 325i is the iconic second-generation 3 Series produced from 1982-1994, with the 325i variant introduced for the 1986 model year. The 325i features BMW's M20B25 2.5-liter SOHC inline-six engine producing 168-171 horsepower depending on market and emissions equipment, with U.S. specification models rated at 168 hp at 5,800 rpm and 164 lb-ft of torque at 4,300 rpm. The M20 engine family established BMW's reputation for smooth, rev-happy inline-six character with excellent low-end torque and linear power delivery through its 6,500 rpm redline, managed by Bosch Motronic fuel injection.
The E30 325i was offered in sedan, coupe, convertible, and Touring (wagon) body styles, all featuring rear-wheel drive with MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension that provided engaging handling dynamics with excellent packaging efficiency. Transmission options included the renowned Getrag 260 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The E30 platform earned legendary status for its balanced chassis, precise steering, durability, and timeless design by Claus Luthe.
