The Porsche Boxster 986, produced from 1996 to 2004, was Porsche's first mid-engine roadster and played a key role in reviving the brand's fortunes in the late 1990s. It featured a 2.5-liter flat-six engine in its initial release, delivering 201 horsepower, paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The 986's lightweight design and balanced chassis provided exceptional handling and driving dynamics.
In 2000, updates included a power increase to 217 horsepower from a 2.7-liter engine, and the introduction of the Boxster S variant, which featured a 3.2-liter flat-six producing 250 horsepower. Additional improvements over the years included subtle styling updates, refined interior materials, and technological enhancements like better audio and climate control systems.
