The Porsche 981 Cayman GTS is the performance-oriented variant of the second-generation Cayman, produced from 2014 to 2016 as the range-topping model before the introduction of the GT4. It features a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine producing 340 horsepower (254 kW) at 7,400 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque between 4,750-5,800 rpm, representing a 15 horsepower increase over the Cayman S. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through either a 6-speed manual transmission or 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic, with the PDK achieving 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds (4.5 seconds with Sport Plus mode via the standard Sport Chrono Package) and a top speed of 175 mph.
The GTS features comprehensive performance enhancements including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive dampers as standard, sport exhaust system, 20mm lower ride height compared to standard Cayman models, and distinctive styling with blacked-out trim elements and aggressive bodywork. Weighing 3,031 pounds with PDK (3,053 with manual), the Cayman GTS benefits from the mid-engine chassis layout that provides near-perfect weight distribution and exceptional handling balance. The 3.4-liter flat-six is particularly responsive above 4,000 rpm and becomes increasingly eager in the final 1,500 rpm before redline. The 981 Cayman GTS offered the sweet spot in the Cayman lineup, delivering near-GT4 performance in a more refined package suitable for both spirited road driving and track day use, representing the last naturally aspirated Cayman GTS before Porsche's transition to turbocharged engines in the 718 generation.
