Arroyo Seco Raceway Notas

Arroyo Seco Raceway, nestled in the high desert of southern New Mexico, is a multi-purpose motorsports facility with a rich history intertwined with the local racing community. Originally conceived in the late 1990s, the track officially opened its doors in 2001, providing a dedicated venue for drag racing and road course events that were previously relegated to less suitable locations.

The heart of Arroyo Seco is its 1.8-mile road course, a challenging layout characterized by a blend of high-speed straights, sweeping corners, and tight technical sections. The course configuration features ten turns, offering a diverse test of driver skill and car setup. Elevation changes throughout the lap add another layer of complexity, particularly in the demanding back section. A prominent feature is the long front straight, allowing for significant speed before plunging into the first complex of corners. The infield section presents a series of connected turns demanding precision and car control.

Technically, the track surface is well-maintained asphalt, providing ample grip. While not a Formula 1 grade circuit, Arroyo Seco caters to a wide range of motorsports. It is primarily used for amateur and semi-professional racing events, including sports car racing, motorcycle racing, and open-wheel competitions. The facility also hosts driver education programs, track days, and private testing sessions. Its drag strip is a separate, dedicated facility running parallel with the main straight, hosting NHRA-sanctioned events and local drag racing series.

What makes Arroyo Seco unique is its accessibility and the welcoming atmosphere it fosters within the local motorsports community. Its relatively remote location contributes to a sense of escapism, allowing racers and spectators to fully immerse themselves in the thrill of the sport. The track's challenging layout, combined with its affordability and focus on grassroots racing, has cemented its place as a vital hub for motorsports enthusiasts in the Southwest.

CCW Notas

The counterclockwise configuration at Arroyo Seco Raceway in New Mexico reverses the standard flow at this high-desert facility, transforming corner approaches and braking references across the technical layout. Located in the arid landscape outside Deming, New Mexico, running CCW creates entirely different line selection challenges compared to clockwise operation. The reversal serves events seeking directional variety or drivers wanting fresh perspective on familiar corners they've mastered in the opposite direction.

Operating counterclockwise at Arroyo Seco emphasizes the facility's role serving Southwest motorsport enthusiasts in a region with limited permanent road course options. New Mexico's high desert climate creates extreme temperature variations with summer track surfaces exceeding 55C while winter mornings can see freezing starts. The CCW configuration allows the facility to offer varied experiences across multiple event weekends, preventing the track from becoming overly familiar to regular users while maintaining the same physical infrastructure across both directional options.
