The S55 architecture incorporates closed-deck engine block construction, lightweight crankshaft, reinforced crankshaft bearings, strengthened pistons and connecting rods, upgraded valve springs and materials, twin mono-scroll turbochargers replacing N55's single twin-scroll unit, dual high-pressure fuel pumps, active exhaust valve system, and revised cooling infrastructure with upgraded intercoolers managing increased thermal loads from elevated boost pressures.
