La Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 con Pacchetto Prestazioni Z07 rappresenta l'espressione definitiva dell'ingegneria Corvette di settima generazione. Prodotta nello stabilimento leggendario di Bowling Green, Kentucky, dal 2015 al 2019, la Z06 Z07 combina potenza V8 americana sovralimentata con componenti focalizzati sulla pista che l'hanno trasformata in una legittima competitor di supercar. Svelata al North American International Auto Show 2014 a Detroit, questa iterazione del nome Z06 porta avanti un patrimonio che risale al 1963 integrando tecnologia all'avanguardia.
Al cuore della C7 Z06 Z07 siede il propulsore LT4—un motore V8 sovralimentato da 6,2 litri dotato di compressore Eaton R1740 TVS, che eroga 650 cavalli a 6.400 giri/min e una coppia massiccia di 650 lb-ft a 3.600 giri/min. L'architettura avanzata dell'LT4 include iniezione diretta, fasatura variabile continua, tecnologia di disattivazione cilindri Active Fuel Management e sistema di lubrificazione a carter secco. Accelerazione 0-60 mph in soli 2,95 secondi con l'automatico a otto rapporti o 3,5 secondi con il manuale a sette rapporti, velocità massima di 196 mph (315 km/h).
Il Pacchetto Prestazioni Z07 da 8.995 $ trasforma l'auto in un'arma da pista. Include dischi freno in ceramica-carbonio Brembo da 394 x 36 mm anteriori e 388 x 33 mm posteriori, risparmiando 23 libbre di peso non sospeso. Il pacchetto incorpora pneumatici semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 in allestimento sfalsato: P285/30ZR19 anteriori e P335/25ZR20 posteriori, offrendo grip da livello pista con accelerazione laterale superiore a 1,2g. L'assetto sospensioni FE7 aumenta le molle del 62% anteriormente e 22% posteriormente.
I miglioramenti aerodinamici includono uno splitter anteriore aggressivo con alette in fibra di carbonio, piani di immersione, minigonne laterali generanti effetto suolo e spoiler posteriore wickerbill regolabile manualmente. Configurati per massimo carico aerodinamico, questi elementi generano fino a 350 libbre di carico. Lo Z07 include cerchi forgiati in alluminio leggeri da 19x10 pollici anteriori e 20x12 pollici posteriori.
Le credenziali prestazionali in pista sono state validate da numerosi test indipendenti. La rivista tedesca Sport Auto ha ottenuto un tempo di 7:13.9 al Nürburgring Nordschleife con Christian Gebhardt alla guida—quasi sei secondi più veloce della C6 ZR1 generazione precedente. Le riviste americane hanno registrato accelerazioni laterali superiori a 1,20g e distanze di frenata 60-0 mph circa 95 piedi con le ceramiche carbonio.
La produzione è stata dal 2015 al 2019, ogni anno portando raffinamenti. I modelli iniziali 2015-2016 soffrivano di inadeguatezze del sistema di raffreddamento causando riduzione potenza. GM ha risolto sui modelli 2017+ con scambiatori di calore migliorati e radiatori ingranditi. L'anno modello 2019 segna la produzione finale C7 prima della rivoluzionaria Corvette C8 a motore centrale.
I valori di mercato attuali vanno da circa 65.000 $ per modelli 2015-2016 a chilometraggio elevato fino a 95.000 $+ per esemplari 2019 a basso chilometraggio. La C7 Z06 Z07 rimane uno dei più grandi affari prestazionali della storia automobilistica.
