2018: The Model 3 Performance was launched, featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive, a performance-focused suspension, upgraded brakes, a top speed of 155 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. It came standard with 20-inch performance wheels, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, and a Track Mode feature allowing drivers to adjust power distribution and regenerative braking for track use. It also included a lowered suspension for better handling.
2019: Tesla introduced software updates to improve Track Mode, adding more in-depth customization and telemetry tracking. The 0-60 mph time improved slightly to around 3.2 seconds due to software optimizations. Tesla also added Autopilot as a standard feature across all Model 3 trims, including the Performance version, enhancing driver assistance capabilities.
2020: The Model 3 Performance received a minor facelift with revised exterior trim, replacing the chrome accents with a "chrome delete" matte black finish for a more modern look. Inside, Tesla updated the center console with a wireless charging pad and USB-C ports. Range increased slightly due to battery efficiency improvements, with the EPA-estimated range reaching around 310 miles on a full charge. The 0-60 mph time improved to 3.1 seconds with software tweaks.
2021: Tesla made several updates, including a heat pump for more efficient heating and improved cold-weather performance, which also contributed to better overall range. The Performance model’s range increased to approximately 315 miles. Tesla introduced the new 20-inch Überturbine wheels, giving the Model 3 a more aggressive look, and slightly revised the suspension for a smoother ride. Additional interior updates included new door panel materials and minor layout changes.
2022: Minor software and battery improvements contributed to an even faster 0-60 mph time of around 3.1 seconds. Tesla updated the Model 3’s infotainment system with a new AMD Ryzen processor, making the interface more responsive and enhancing the in-car gaming experience. Tesla also introduced laminated rear windows for better sound insulation and slightly improved noise reduction.
2023: Tesla introduced further software optimizations, improving acceleration and range in real-world scenarios. Enhanced rear suspension components were added for improved comfort and stability. Tesla also introduced Tesla Vision, removing radar sensors and relying on camera-based Autopilot functionality, a shift that sparked discussions on the performance of advanced driver-assistance features.
