Chevrolet Corvette C5, выпускавшийся с 1997 по 2004 год, стал значительным шагом вперёд для Corvette, представив более утончённый дизайн, улучшенные характеристики и современную технологию. Построенный на новой платформе, C5 отличался лёгкой, но жёсткой конструкцией, что значительно улучшало управляемость и устойчивость. Его приводил в движение совершенно новый 5,7-литровый V8 LS1, изначально развивавший 345 л.с., а позже увеличенный до 350 л.с., обеспечивая мощное ускорение и характерный рокот V8. В паре с шестиступенчатой механической или четырёхступенчатой автоматической коробкой передач, C5 демонстрировал впечатляющие показатели, разгоняясь до 60 миль в час менее чем за 5 секунд.
Дизайн C5 сочетал классические черты Corvette с более аэродинамичной и обтекаемой формой. Доступный в кузовах купе, кабриолет и позднее с фиксированной жёсткой крышей, он предлагал разнообразие для разных стилей вождения. В салоне C5 был более ориентирован на водителя и комфортен по сравнению с предыдущими моделями, с улучшенной эргономикой, кожаными сиденьями и обновлённой цифрово-аналоговой приборной панелью. Кроме того, C5 впервые получил такие опции, как проекционный дисплей и систему активного управления, что стало значительным шагом вперёд как в плане производительности, так и технологий для линейки Corvette.
