Utah Motorsports Campus East Circuit
Utah Motorsports Campus is the top destination for racing in the Beehive State, in Grantsville, 30 miles west of Salt Lake City. The genesis of this motorsports complex came in 2006 when Larry H. Miller, the owner of the NBA franchise Utah Jazz, brought the South African race track designer Allan Wilson to create a playground for automobile, motorcycle, and karting racers in the state. The results were solid: four multipurpose racing circuits providing high-speed segments combined with technically challenging trajectories for all types of motor vehicles.
The scenery around Utah Motorsports Campus is remarkable, with the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains on the horizon and clear skies most of the year. Each of its four layouts has something to offer: the Outer Circuit is one of the fastest road courses in America. The East & West Circuits are very demanding tracks able to operate simultaneously. The Full Course is the second-longest raceway in America. Many professional racing associations have Utah Motorsports Campus as a staple part of their racing season, including AMA Superbike Championship, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, American Le-Mans Series, and several other racing events.
Utah Motorsport Campus' East Circuit is a 2.23-mile layout that can operate simultaneously with the West Circuit, hosting different events in each track. It has 15 counterclockwise turns in alternating directions that make this layout difficult to race and learn, forcing drivers to keep a slower pace than in the other circuits in Utah Motorsport Campus. Its average lap time is 1:53.48, with an average speed of 71 mph, 14 mph slower than the outer circuit. Even though the track is slower, it compensates for the loss of velocity with tons of excitement because of the heavy steering needed to travel it successfully. Names like Ecstasy, Agony, Satisfaction, Maybe Y'all Make It are funny ways to describe the emotions this track can elicit in drivers.
