2016: Introduction of the 991.2 Carrera S with a switch to a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 420 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, marking the first time the Carrera S used turbocharging. Available with a 7-speed manual or 7-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Exterior updates included redesigned headlights, taillights, and a new rear bumper with vertical vents. Interior updates featured a revised infotainment system with Porsche Communication Management (PCM), now with touchscreen capability and improved connectivity.
2017: Minor changes focused on optional equipment and customization options. New color and trim options were introduced, and Porsche added Apple CarPlay compatibility to the infotainment system. Advanced driver assistance features like lane change assist became available as options.
2018: No significant mechanical changes, but some additional standard features were included, such as automatic two-zone climate control. Porsche continued to offer various customization packages and optional equipment updates, allowing more personalization for buyers.
2019: Final model year of the 991.2 Carrera S before the transition to the 992 generation. Minor updates included slight adjustments to available colors and options, with Porsche continuing to refine standard equipment and interior trim selections. Production of the 991.2 concluded as the new 992 generation took its place.
