O Chevrolet Corvette C5, produzido de 1997 a 2004, representou uma grande evolução para o Corvette, introduzindo um design mais refinado, desempenho aprimorado e tecnologia modernizada. Construído sobre uma nova plataforma, o C5 apresentava uma estrutura leve, porém rígida, que melhorava significativamente a dirigibilidade e a estabilidade. Era equipado com o novo motor V8 LS1 de 5,7 litros, que inicialmente entregava 345 hp e depois foi elevado para 350 hp, proporcionando forte aceleração e um ronco satisfatório de V8. Acoplado a uma transmissão manual de seis marchas ou automática de quatro velocidades, o C5 alcançava desempenho impressionante, atingindo 0-60 mph em menos de 5 segundos.
O design do C5 combinava elementos clássicos do estilo Corvette com uma forma mais aerodinâmica e fluida. Disponível nas versões cupê, conversível e, posteriormente, hardtop com teto fixo, oferecia versatilidade para diferentes experiências de condução. Internamente, o C5 apresentava uma cabine mais focada no motorista e confortável do que os modelos anteriores, com ergonomia aprimorada, bancos em couro e um painel de instrumentos digital-analógico atualizado. O C5 também introduziu recursos como display head-up e sistema de controle ativo de estabilidade, representando um avanço significativo em desempenho e tecnologia para a linha Corvette.
