The Honda Civic Type R FL5, introduced in 2023, is the latest generation of Honda's high-performance Civic model, designed for enthusiasts seeking a blend of speed, handling, and everyday usability. The FL5 builds on the success of its predecessor, the FK8, with improved aerodynamics, a refined powertrain, and enhanced handling.
Powering the FL5 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, producing 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, an increase over the previous model. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, which features a revised rev-matching system for smoother downshifts. The front-wheel-drive layout includes a helical limited-slip differential, which helps manage torque and improve cornering grip, giving the FL5 precise handling characteristics.
The exterior design of the FL5 is more refined than the aggressive styling of the FK8, with a lower, wider stance and subtle aerodynamic enhancements like a larger rear wing, functional vents, and a redesigned front bumper to improve cooling and airflow. The body has been further stiffened, enhancing stability at high speeds and responsiveness during spirited driving.
Inside, the FL5 retains a driver-focused cabin with Type R-specific sport seats, a red-accented interior, and a unique digital gauge cluster with performance-focused displays. Standard features include Honda's latest infotainment system with a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a range of driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
The Honda Civic Type R FL5 continues to be one of the most sought-after front-wheel-drive performance cars, offering a well-balanced combination of power, precision, and practicality for both track days and everyday driving.
