The Ferrari 488 GT3 is a race-spec version of the 488 GTB developed by Ferrari Competizioni GT for global GT3 competition, with the Evo evolution package introduced for the 2020 season representing extensive aerodynamic and performance refinements. The 488 GT3 features a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter (sometimes referenced as 4.0L) V8 engine producing approximately 500-600 horsepower depending on Balance of Performance regulations, paired with an X-Track transverse six-speed sequential gearbox. The twin-turbo V8 provides strong midrange torque and progressive power delivery distinct from Ferrari's traditional naturally aspirated GT racing engines.
The Evo update incorporated over 18,000 hours of computational fluid dynamics simulation resulting in revised front bumper, larger front fender vents, modified rear wing vents, and lengthened wheelbase to reduce tire wear and improve handling balance. The aluminum chassis with carbon fiber bodywork achieves the GT3 minimum weight of approximately 2,778 pounds (1,260 kg). FIA homologation rules allow manufacturers to produce either an all-new car or Evo update kit during each three-year homologation cycle, with the 488 GT3 Evo representing Ferrari's evolution update path. The 488 GT3 has achieved significant success globally including class victories at major endurance races and numerous championships in Blancpain GT Series, IMSA GTD, Pirelli World Challenge, and national series worldwide.
