Volkswagen
Golf GTI TCR
Notes
The Golf GTI TCR factory race car is a purpose-built competition vehicle developed by Volkswagen Motorsport for the TCR racing series. It is based on the Mk7 Golf GTI but heavily modified to meet FIA TCR regulations, ensuring it is optimized for high-performance circuit racing. The race car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing 350 horsepower and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque, paired with a 6-speed sequential gearbox operated via paddle shifters for lightning-fast gear changes.
To handle the rigors of racing, the GTI TCR is equipped with a stripped-down interior, featuring a FIA-approved roll cage, racing seat with a six-point harness, and an advanced digital display for critical telemetry data. The suspension is race-tuned with adjustable dampers and camber settings, while the braking system features massive racing-spec ventilated discs and calipers to deliver reliable stopping power during endurance events.
The car’s aerodynamic enhancements include a prominent front splitter, flared wheel arches, and a large adjustable rear wing, providing significant downforce and stability at high speeds. Lightweight materials, including a carbon fiber hood and other body panels, reduce overall weight for improved performance and handling. The wide racing tires are mounted on lightweight alloy wheels, offering maximum grip on the track.
Visually, the factory race car retains some resemblance to the road-going GTI but features aggressive race-specific design elements, including a lower ride height, air intakes optimized for cooling, and a rear diffuser to improve aerodynamics. Customizable liveries allow teams to showcase their branding and sponsors during competitions.
The Golf GTI TCR factory race car is designed for professional and semi-professional teams competing in the TCR series worldwide, providing a balance of accessibility, performance, and reliability. It represents Volkswagen Motorsport’s commitment to delivering competitive, track-ready machines for customer racing programs.
