The Honda Civic Type R FN2 is the eighth-generation Civic Type R produced from 2007-2011, representing a significant departure from previous Civic Type R models through its three-door hatchback body style and naturally aspirated K20A/K20Z4 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine. The European-market FN2 features the K20Z4 producing 201 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels through a limited-slip differential. The high-revving naturally aspirated inline-four with VTEC variable valve timing delivers characteristic Honda high-rpm power with an 8,000 rpm redline.
The FN2 Type R includes comprehensive performance equipment: sport-tuned suspension with Adaptive Damper System, Brembo four-piston front brake calipers, 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, aerodynamic body kit with rear wing, dual exhaust, Recaro sport seats, and aluminum pedals. Weighing approximately 2,866 pounds (1,300 kg), the FN2 achieves 0-62 mph in approximately 6.4 seconds with top speed near 146 mph. The FN2 generated controversy among Type R purists for abandoning the traditional four-door sedan body style of previous generations (EK9, EP3) in favor of a more practical three-door hatchback, though driving dynamics remained sharp with precise steering, excellent chassis balance, and the characteristically engaging Honda high-rpm power delivery. The FN2 remains popular in European track day events and hot hatch competitions, representing the last naturally aspirated, non-turbocharged Civic Type R before Honda adopted turbocharged engines in subsequent FK2 and FK8 generations.
