2015: The S550 Mustang GT debuted with a new platform and an independent rear suspension, a first for the Mustang, greatly improving handling and ride quality. It featured the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine producing 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. This year marked the introduction of a more modern interior, an upgraded infotainment system, and a sleeker, more aerodynamic exterior.
2016: Minor updates were made, with the main addition being new Sync 3, Ford’s updated infotainment system, which replaced MyFord Touch for a more intuitive interface. New appearance packages and color options were introduced, offering more personalization for buyers.
2017: Ford continued with minor updates and new appearance options, including unique stripes and wheel choices. Performance remained unchanged, as Ford prepared for a significant refresh in 2018.
2018: The Mustang GT received a major refresh with a more aggressive front fascia, revised headlights, and new rear styling. The 5.0L V8 was upgraded to 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, thanks to the addition of direct and port fuel injection. Ford also introduced a new 10-speed automatic transmission alongside the 6-speed manual. A digital instrument cluster became available, and the MagneRide adaptive suspension was offered for the first time on the GT.
2019: Minor changes were made, primarily in the form of new color options and additional features in the infotainment system. Ford introduced the Bullitt edition, a limited variant of the GT with 480 hp, unique styling inspired by the 1968 Bullitt movie car, and performance upgrades.
2020: The Mustang GT continued mostly unchanged, with Ford adding more optional technology and safety features. Special editions, like the Mustang GT California Special, offered unique visual and interior upgrades but kept the standard GT's performance.
2021: New colors and slight feature updates were introduced, but the GT remained largely the same mechanically. The limited Mach 1 variant returned as a performance-focused option with handling upgrades and styling inspired by classic Mach 1 models.
