Baskerville Raceway Notas

Baskerville Raceway, located near Hobart, Tasmania, is a historic Australian motorsport circuit. Opened in 1958, it's Tasmania's oldest permanent racing facility and has been a cornerstone of the state's racing scene for over six decades. The circuit's humble beginnings as a dirt track quickly evolved into a bitumen surface, hosting a variety of national and state-level events.

The track layout is a relatively short, tight 2.01-kilometer (1.25-mile) circuit characterized by its undulating terrain and challenging corners. Baskerville features a mix of fast sweepers and tight, technical sections, demanding precision and car control. The circuit is run in a clockwise direction. The main straight, though relatively short, leads into the complex Turn 1, a decreasing radius corner which is a major overtaking point. A series of esses and a hairpin then lead onto a back straight, followed by a challenging uphill section. The elevation changes throughout the lap add another layer of complexity, testing both driver and machine.

Baskerville's technical characteristics prioritize handling over outright power. The track's narrow width and lack of run-off areas emphasize driver skill and punish mistakes. This makes it a popular circuit for driver development and grassroots motorsport. The track holds a CAMS (now Motorsport Australia) license.

The circuit hosts a wide range of racing events, including circuit racing, hillclimbs, drifting, and motorcycle racing. It's a regular venue for state-level championships in various categories, from open-wheelers and sports cars to touring cars and historic vehicles. Baskerville is also popular for private track days and driver training programs.

What makes Baskerville Raceway unique is its old-school charm and intimate atmosphere. Its rustic facilities and close proximity to the action provide a raw and authentic motorsport experience. The track's history, challenging layout, and dedicated local community have cemented its place as a beloved and iconic Australian racing venue.
