The Chevrolet Corvette C5, produced from 1997 to 2004, represented a major evolution for the Corvette, introducing a more refined design, improved performance, and modernized technology. Built on a new platform, the C5 featured a lightweight yet rigid structure that greatly enhanced handling and stability. It was powered by the all-new LS1 5.7-liter V8 engine, which produced 345 horsepower initially and later increased to 350 horsepower, delivering strong acceleration and a satisfying V8 rumble. Paired with either a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, the C5 achieved impressive performance, reaching 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds.
The C5’s design was a blend of classic Corvette styling cues with a more aerodynamic, streamlined shape. Available in coupe, convertible, and later a fixed-roof hardtop body style, it offered versatility for different driving experiences. Inside, the C5 featured a more driver-focused and comfortable cabin than previous models, with improved ergonomics, leather seating, and an updated digital-analog instrument cluster. The C5 also introduced features like a head-up display and an active handling system, making it a significant leap forward in both performance and technology for the Corvette lineup.
