The SCCA Spec Racer Ford Gen3 is a purpose-built formula-style racing car introduced in 2015 for Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) competition, representing the third generation of the long-running Spec Racer Ford program. The Gen3 is powered by a Ford Sigma 1.6-liter sequential fuel-injected, DOHC 16-valve inline-four engine (derived from the Ford Fiesta) producing 135 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. The engine is dyno-tested and sealed by SCCA Enterprises to ensure parity, paired with a sealed Ford 5-speed manual transmission (with optional SADEV 6-speed sequential gearbox) and managed by a sealed Performance Electronics PE3 ECU.
The car has a minimum weight of 1,560 pounds (707 kg) with driver and carries a 7.75 US gallon (29 liter) fuel cell allowing approximately one hour of racing at competitive pace. Built on a purpose-designed space-frame chassis, the Gen3 features race-grade brakes, fully adjustable suspension, and spec Hoosier radial racing tires (both dry and wet compounds) on 13-inch alloy wheels from Pack Racing. The control formula strictly limits modifications beyond suspension adjustments, eliminating expensive development arms races and focusing competition on driver skill rather than budget. This philosophy has made Spec Racer Ford one of the most affordable paths to professional-level road racing, serving as a crucial training ground for aspiring racers throughout North America.
