La SCCA Spec Racer Ford Gen3 est une voiture de course de type formule conçue spécialement, lancée en 2015 pour les compétitions du Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), représentant la troisième génération du programme Spec Racer Ford de longue date. La Gen3 est propulsée par un moteur Ford Sigma 1,6 litre à injection séquentielle, double arbre à cames en tête et 16 soupapes en ligne (dérivé de la Ford Fiesta), développant 135 chevaux et 118 lb-pi de couple. Le moteur est testé au banc et scellé par SCCA Enterprises pour garantir l’égalité des performances, associé à une boîte manuelle Ford 5 vitesses scellée (avec en option une boîte séquentielle SADEV 6 vitesses) et géré par une unité de commande électronique Performance Electronics PE3 scellée.
La voiture affiche un poids minimum de 1 560 livres (707 kg) avec le pilote et embarque un réservoir de carburant de 7,75 gallons US (29 litres), offrant environ une heure de course à rythme compétitif. Construite sur un châssis space-frame spécialement conçu, la Gen3 dispose de freins de qualité course, d’une suspension entièrement réglable et de pneus de course radiaux Hoosier homologués (composés secs et pluie) montés sur des jantes alliage 13 pouces de Pack Racing. La formule de contrôle limite strictement les modifications au-delà des réglages de suspension, éliminant ainsi les coûteuses courses au développement et concentrant la compétition sur le talent du pilote plutôt que sur le budget. Cette philosophie a fait de la Spec Racer Ford l’une des voies les plus abordables vers la course sur route professionnelle, servant de terrain d’entraînement essentiel pour les pilotes en devenir à travers l’Amérique du Nord.
