La Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C7 con Z51 Performance Package rappresenta la specifica di riferimento della settima generazione di Corvette, prodotta dal 2014 al 2019 come variante dedicata agli appassionati, che bilancia usabilità quotidiana, capacità in pista e rapporto qualità-prezzo all’interno del celebre marchio americano di sportive. Alimentata dal motore V8 LT1 aspirato da 6.2L, capace di erogare 455 cavalli a 6.000rpm e 460 lb-ft di coppia (o 460hp/465 lb-ft con l’impianto di scarico performance opzionale), disponibile con cambio manuale a sette rapporti oppure automatico a otto marce, la Stingray offriva prestazioni coinvolgenti che superavano la generazione precedente C6, migliorando al contempo comfort e fruibilità quotidiana. Il pacchetto Z51 si rivolgeva specificamente agli appassionati di guida grazie a una serie di aggiornamenti completi comprendenti differenziale a slittamento limitato elettronico, ammortizzatori adattivi Magnetic Ride Control, freni maggiorati con pinze Brembo, sistema di lubrificazione a carter secco per evitare la sottrazione d’olio durante curve prolungate, raffreddamento di trasmissione e differenziale, e rapporto finale specifico per ottimizzare l’accelerazione. Le migliorie aerodinamiche includevano splitter anteriore e alettone posteriore capaci di generare downforce funzionale, mentre il telaio riceveva barre stabilizzatrici irrigidite e una taratura sospensioni orientata alla performance, consentendo 1.0g di accelerazione laterale e tempi sul giro competitivi nei circuiti di tutto il paese. Con un peso di 3.298 libbre, la Stingray Z51 vantava un eccellente rapporto peso-potenza, realizzando uno 0-60mph in 3,8 secondi con cambio automatico e tempi sul quarto di miglio nella fascia bassa dei 12 secondi, prestazioni da confrontare con quelle di esotiche dal doppio del prezzo richiesto tra $60.000 e $70.000. L’abitacolo proponeva climatizzatore automatico dual-zone, volante a fondo piatto rivestito in pelle, sedili sportivi competition disponibili con riscaldamento e ventilazione, e head-up display opzionale che proiettava dati telemetrici sul parabrezza. La Stingray equipaggiata con il pacchetto Z51 si distingue come piattaforma di accesso ideale per track day, richiedendo modifiche minime per eventi HPDE e gare club, supportata da un aftermarket solido che permette upgrade progressivi man mano che migliorano le capacità di guida. Le gomme montate includevano pneumatici estivi Michelin Pilot Super Sport con ottimo bilanciamento di grip, sebbene chi frequenta seriamente la pista opti frequentemente per i semi-slick Pilot Sport Cup 2 per massimizzare l’aderenza meccanica. La produzione ha visto numerosi aggiornamenti estetici e di equipaggiamento durante il ciclo di vita del modello, tra cui luci esterne riviste, sistema infotainment aggiornato e nuove opzioni di colore, mentre le specifiche meccaniche di base sono rimaste coerenti. La C7 Stingray Z51 si confrontava nel segmento delle sportive performanti con Porsche 911 Carrera, Audi R8 V8 e Nissan GT-R, distinguendosi per il tradizionale carattere V8 americano, prezzi accessibili e un ecosistema aftermarket molto robusto. I successi nel motorsport includevano una vasta diffusione nelle gare club NASA/SCCA, competizioni di time attack e track day privati, a testimonianza delle credenziali di prestazione della vettura derivata dalla produzione di serie.
