La Chevrolet Corvette C6 Grand Sport ha riportato in vita la leggendaria denominazione Grand Sport per gli anni modello 2010-2013, combinando il telaio a carrozzeria larga della Z06 e i sistemi di raffreddamento potenziati con il motore base LS3 6.2L V8 che eroga 430 cavalli a 5.900 giri/min e 424 lb-ft di coppia a 4.600 giri/min. Introdotta come ponte tra la Corvette base e la Z06 orientata alla pista, la Grand Sport offriva i parafanghi posteriori più larghi della Z06, che aumentavano la carreggiata di quattro pollici, freni maggiorati con pinze anteriori a doppio pistone, condotti di raffreddamento dei freni funzionali e una geometria delle sospensioni rivista per migliorare la capacità di curva mantenendo la guidabilità quotidiana grazie alla disponibilità della trasmissione automatica. Con un peso di circa 3.220 libbre, la Grand Sport garantiva prestazioni eccezionali, raggiungendo da 0 a 60 mph in 3,9 secondi con cambio manuale e tempi sul quarto di miglio intorno ai 12,3 secondi, mentre la dinamica del telaio migliorata permetteva un’accelerazione laterale superiore a 1,0g su pneumatici stradali. Disponibile sia in versione coupé che cabriolet con cambio manuale a sei marce o automatico a sei rapporti, la Grand Sport si distingueva per il pacchetto grafico Heritage con doppie strisce da corsa e segni sui parafanghi in omaggio alle originali Grand Sport da corsa del 1963, sebbene le strisce rimanessero opzionali per un aspetto più sobrio. Gli aggiornamenti prestazionali includevano il sistema di lubrificazione a carter secco condiviso con la Z06, il raffreddatore del differenziale per un uso prolungato in pista e gli ammortizzatori adattivi Magnetic Selective Ride Control che ottimizzavano la tenuta di strada in diverse condizioni di guida. Gli interni riprendevano quelli della Corvette base, con sedili Competition Sport opzionali che offrivano un supporto laterale migliorato durante la guida sportiva, mentre ampi pacchetti di opzioni permettevano la personalizzazione, spaziando dal comfort da touring a configurazioni pronte per la pista. La Grand Sport si rivolgeva agli appassionati che desideravano le caratteristiche di guida della Z06 senza la potenza da supercar, offrendo una soglia di prestazioni più accessibile pur mantenendo il feedback e il coinvolgimento tipici della Corvette. La produzione ha raggiunto circa 16.000 unità in quattro anni modello prima della conclusione della generazione C6 nel 2013, posizionando la Grand Sport come l’ultima evoluzione della piattaforma di sesta generazione prima della radicale rivisitazione della C7. Oggi gli esemplari di C6 Grand Sport suscitano un forte interesse da collezione come ultima generazione di Corvette a motore anteriore prima che la C8 a motore centrale modificasse radicalmente l’architettura della piattaforma, in particolare i modelli con cambio manuale e pacchetto Heritage che combinano hardware prestazionale con la livrea iconica in onore dell’eredità corsaiola della Corvette.
