El BMW M240i F22 representa la culminación de la evolución del cupé compacto de segunda generación Serie 2 introducido en 2016 reemplazando la designación M235i a través de mejoras comprehensivas del tren motriz entregando 340 caballos de fuerza desde el inline-seis turboalimentado B58 estableciendo credibilidad de rendimiento cerrando brecha entre 230i estándar y variantes M2 completas. El inline-seis B58 turboalimentado de 3.0 litros produce 340 caballos de fuerza a 5,500 RPM con 369 libras-pie de torque desde 1,520-4,500 RPM. El facelift LCI 2017 trajo diseño exterior refinado a través de faros LED actualizados con firma de luces diurnas hexagonales reemplazando elementos circulares anteriores. La producción concluyó en 2021 con Serie 2 G42 de tercera generación adoptando actualizaciones de plataforma evolutivas, mientras ejemplos F22 M240i mantienen fuertes valores de mercado usado variando $25,000-$45,000.
