El Porsche 987 Cayman R 2011-2012 es una variante orientada a pista dentro de la gama Cayman, que ofrece un paquete más ligero y enfocado en el rendimiento. Cuenta con un motor bóxer de seis cilindros y 3.4 litros que entrega 330 hp, asociado a una transmisión manual de seis velocidades o una PDK de siete velocidades. Porsche redujo peso eliminando elementos innecesarios, como las manillas interiores de las puertas, reemplazadas por tiras de tela, y utilizando puertas de aluminio. La suspensión se endureció y la altura de la carrocería se rebajó 20 mm para mejorar el manejo. Entre los elementos exteriores exclusivos destacan los detalles en negro, las llantas ligeras y un alerón trasero fijo. El Cayman R ofrece una experiencia de conducción más envolvente, convirtiéndolo en un favorito entre los entusiastas.
