2019: Launch of the G29 generation Z4 M40i, featuring a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine producing 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

2023: Mid-cycle refresh introduced, making the M Sport appearance package standard across the range. This update included design tweaks and enhanced standard equipment.

2025: Introduction of the "Handschalter" package, offering a 6-speed manual transmission for the first time in the Z4 M40i. This package also includes unique suspension tuning, mixed-size M light-alloy wheels (19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear), and exclusive design elements such as Extended Shadowline trim and black badging. Additionally, it offers exclusive paint options like San Remo Green Metallic and Frozen Deep Green Metallic, along with Cognac leather upholstery.
