Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari-Imola Circuit Notes

The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari is an FIA Grade One Road Course located in the northern Italian town of Imola, near Bologna, 300 km north of Rome, Italy. The Imola Circuit was paved in 1953 and hosted the Formula 1 San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006. Imola is also famous for being the home of "The Prancing Horse," as the Scuderia Ferrari racing team is commonly known. It was here in the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, specifically at a flat left-hand corner in today's Variante Tamburello, that the Brazilian F1 Champion Ayrton Senna got killed in 1994.

There are 19 turns in the 3.05-mile (4.90-km) road course in Imola, which is one of the few F1 race tracks running in the counterclockwise orientation. The track starts/finishes in a straight segment just after Variante Bassa and goes left in the Variante Tamburello, consisting of a chicane with three turns (2, 3, and 4). The Variante Villeneuve comes next, followed by Tosa, the tightest corner in the circuit. Piratella is a 90-degree corner number nine between two kinks, turns 8 and 10. Acque Minerali is a highly technical turn combination with two left-handers on one right-hander, followed by Varianta Alta, a left-right turn succession. The Imola Circuit ends with Rivazza, consisting of two 90-degree corners to the left.
