El Chevrolet Corvette C5, producido entre 1997 y 2004, representó una gran evolución para el Corvette, introduciendo un diseño más refinado, un rendimiento mejorado y tecnología modernizada. Construido sobre una nueva plataforma, el C5 contaba con una estructura ligera pero rígida que mejoraba considerablemente la maniobrabilidad y la estabilidad. Estaba impulsado por el nuevo motor V8 LS1 de 5.7 litros, que inicialmente entregaba 345 hp y luego aumentó a 350 hp, ofreciendo una aceleración potente y un satisfactorio rugido V8. Asociado a una transmisión manual de seis velocidades o una automática de cuatro velocidades, el C5 lograba un rendimiento impresionante, alcanzando de 0 a 60 mph en menos de 5 segundos.
El diseño del C5 combinaba elementos clásicos del estilo Corvette con una forma más aerodinámica y estilizada. Disponible en carrocerías coupé, convertible y, posteriormente, hardtop de techo fijo, ofrecía versatilidad para diferentes experiencias de conducción. En el interior, el C5 presentaba una cabina más enfocada en el conductor y confortable que los modelos anteriores, con ergonomía mejorada, asientos de cuero y un cuadro de instrumentos digital-analógico actualizado. El C5 también introdujo características como un head-up display y un sistema de manejo activo, representando un avance significativo tanto en rendimiento como en tecnología para la gama Corvette.
