2001: Subaru launched the second generation Impreza models in the Japanese market for the 2001 Model year.

2002: The WRX STi GD/GG debuted in international markets, including a significant release in the United States with the GD chassis. The U.S. model had the 2.0L EJ205 engine with slightly less power than the Japanese version.
