Производство охватывало два крупных обновления: дореформенные модели 1999-2002 годов и послереформенные версии 2003-2007 с обновлёнными фарами, доработанной отделкой интерьера и незначительной перенастройкой подвески. Опция Sequential Manual Transmission была попыткой Toyota внедрить автоматизированную механику, однако коммерчески неудачна из-за медленной скорости переключений и рывков, оставив традиционную механику предпочтительным выбором среди энтузиастов. Продажи Spyder на рынке США составили примерно 27,000 автомобилей за девять модельных лет до прекращения выпуска без прямой замены, поскольку Toyota покинула сегмент доступных спорткаров до совместного проекта 86/GR86 с Subaru.
