Chang International Circuit - Buriram Notes

Chang International Circuit, located near Buriram in northeastern Thailand, is a FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A certified motorsport venue. Opened in 2014, it was designed by Hermann Tilke, the renowned architect behind many modern Formula 1 tracks. The circuit quickly became a cornerstone of Southeast Asian motorsport, hosting a variety of international racing series.

The 4.554 km (2.830 mi) circuit features a blend of high-speed straights and challenging corners. The layout is characterized by a long main straight followed by a tight right-hand hairpin, creating a prime overtaking opportunity. Other notable sections include the sweeping turns of sectors two and three, demanding precision and car balance. The circuit runs in a clockwise direction and has a total of 12 turns: 5 left-handers and 7 right-handers.

Technically, Chang International Circuit presents a good mix of challenges for drivers and engineers. The long straights require efficient aerodynamic setup for high top speeds, while the tight corners emphasize braking stability and mechanical grip. The circuit's relatively flat terrain keeps elevation changes minimal. The track surface itself offers good levels of grip, contributing to competitive racing.

Chang International Circuit regularly hosts prestigious events such as the Super GT Series, World Superbike Championship, and MotoGP. It has also hosted TCR Asia Series and various other regional championships. The circuit's modern facilities, including grandstands with ample seating, corporate hospitality suites, and a well-equipped paddock area, contribute to its status as a world-class racing venue. Its unique location in a culturally rich part of Thailand, combined with its challenging layout and modern infrastructure, sets it apart as a prominent racing destination in Asia.
