The McLaren 720S Spider is a high-performance convertible supercar that blends the exhilarating speed and precision of the 720S Coupe with the thrill of open-top driving. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, it produces 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. This allows the 720S Spider to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, matching the Coupe's performance. It has a top speed of 212 mph with the roof up and 202 mph with the roof down.
The Spider features an advanced Retractable Hard Top that can open or close in just 11 seconds, one of the fastest mechanisms in its class. The top is made of a single-piece carbon fiber panel, keeping weight low and aerodynamics efficient. McLaren also offers an optional electrochromic glass roof that can switch from transparent to tinted at the press of a button.
Aerodynamics play a crucial role in the design, with active elements like the rear spoiler adjusting based on speed, braking, and driving conditions. The 720S Spider also includes a Monocage II-S carbon-fiber structure, which maintains rigidity and strength despite the absence of a fixed roof.
Inside, the 720S Spider combines luxury with a driver-focused layout. The cockpit features premium materials, like Alcantara and leather, and advanced technology, including a digital instrument display that folds down to a slim panel in Track mode. The infotainment system offers seamless control of navigation, audio, and vehicle settings, while the comfortable yet supportive seats are ideal for both track days and long journeys.
