El BMW M240i F22 representa la culminación de la evolución del cupé compacto de segunda generación Serie 2 introducido en 2016 reemplazando la designación M235i a través de mejoras comprehensivas del tren motriz entregando 340 caballos de fuerza desde el inline-seis turboalimentado B58 estableciendo credibilidad de rendimiento cerrando brecha entre 230i estándar y variantes M2 completas. El inline-seis B58 turboalimentado de 3.0 litros produce 340 caballos de fuerza a 5,500 RPM con 369 libras-pie de torque desde 1,520-4,500 RPM. El facelift LCI 2017 trajo diseño exterior refinado a través de faros LED actualizados con firma de luces diurnas hexagonales reemplazando elementos circulares anteriores. La producción concluyó en 2021 con Serie 2 G42 de tercera generación adoptando actualizaciones de plataforma evolutivas, mientras ejemplos F22 M240i mantienen fuertes valores de mercado usado variando $25,000-$45,000.

2016: M240i introduced replacing M235i designation. B58 turbocharged 3.0L inline-six with 340hp/369 lb-ft, ZF eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel-drive or xDrive all-wheel-drive. Adaptive M Sport suspension, electronic limited-slip differential, M Sport brakes with four-piston calipers. 0-60 mph: 4.2 seconds (RWD).
2017: LCI facelift: updated LED headlights with hexagonal DRL signature, revised taillights, subtle front bumper modifications. Interior updates: white instrument cluster dials replacing orange lighting, touchscreen iDrive system with Apple CarPlay, improved connectivity features, enhanced cabin materials quality.
2018: Continued post-LCI specification with 340hp B58 engine. Expanded M Performance parts catalog including carbon fiber exterior components, performance exhaust systems, suspension upgrades. Competition Package introduced offering adjustable coilover suspension, limited-slip differential upgrades, lightweight wheels.
2019: Minor updates including expanded standard equipment, revised option packages consolidating popular features. Shadow Edition special edition introduced featuring black exterior trim, 19-inch black wheels, unique interior appointments. Growing aftermarket tuning support achieving 400+ horsepower through ECU calibration.
2020: Final production year for F22 generation maintaining 340hp specification. Production allocation shifted toward M2 Competition and M2 CS variants as BMW prepared G42 next-generation 2-Series introduction. Strong used market values reflecting enthusiast demand for final hydraulic-steering compact BMW.
