El Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 representa la variante insignia de rendimiento de séptima generación de General Motors, producida desde 2015 hasta 2019 como una derivación supercargada y orientada a pista de la arquitectura C7 Stingray, dirigida a conductores entusiastas que buscan un rendimiento de superdeportivo accesible. Presentado en el North American International Auto Show de 2014, el C7 Z06 marcó el regreso a la inducción forzada tras la generación C6 Z06 de aspiración natural, incorporando un tren motriz, aerodinámica y hardware de chasis revisados a fondo que transforman el Corvette base en una arma creíble para pista, compitiendo contra el Porsche 911 GT3, Nissan GT-R y competidores exóticos europeos a un precio considerablemente inferior. La potencia se transmite mediante la opción de una transmisión manual Tremec TR6070 de siete velocidades con tecnología rev-matching o una automática Hydramatic 8L90 de ocho velocidades con levas al volante y programación Performance Algorithm Transmission (PAT) que optimiza los puntos de cambio para aplicaciones en pista. Un tubo de torque de fibra de carbono conecta el motor con el transaxle trasero, manteniendo una distribución de peso casi perfecta 50/50, fundamental para los beneficios de la arquitectura Corvette de motor delantero medio. Las calibraciones iniciales de la transmisión automática contribuyeron significativamente a los problemas de sobrecalentamiento en 2015-2016 debido a relaciones de engranajes más cerradas, manteniendo el motor a mayores RPM durante sesiones prolongadas en pista, a diferencia de las marchas más largas y puntos de cambio controlados por el conductor de la transmisión manual.
La ingeniería del chasis incorpora una construcción de marco espacial de aluminio con capó, panel de techo y paneles traseros de cuarto trasero en fibra de carbono, reduciendo el peso en vacío a 1,598 kilogramos (3,524 libras) con el paquete Z07 Performance Package y frenos cerámicos de carbono. El sistema de amortiguación adaptativa Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 proporciona firmeza de suspensión variable de manera continua, con Performance Traction Management (PTM) que integra control de tracción, control de estabilidad y programación de diferencial trasero electrónico de deslizamiento limitado a través de cinco modos seleccionables por el conductor, desde Weather hasta Track. GM implementó una cobertura de garantía extendida para los años modelo 2015-2018 que proporcionó actualizaciones del radiador al estándar de 2019, calibraciones revisadas de la transmisión automática, modificaciones en la programación del control del motor que anticipan la activación de los ventiladores de refrigeración y una geometría elevada de la cubierta del intercooler que mejora la disipación térmica.
