La BMW E36 325is est une variante coupé sportif de la troisième génération de la Série 3 de BMW, produite de 1992 à 1995 pour le marché nord-américain. La désignation « is » indiquait un style de carrosserie coupé plus sportif avec un équipement amélioré par rapport aux modèles berline standard. Elle est équipée du moteur six cylindres en ligne atmosphérique M50 de 2,5 litres développant 189 chevaux (192 PS/141 kW) à 5 900 tr/min et 181 lb-pi (245 Nm) de couple à 4 700 tr/min, transmettant la puissance aux roues arrière via une boîte manuelle 5 vitesses de série.
Le châssis E36 représentait une évolution majeure dans l’ingénierie BMW, offrant une dynamique de conduite améliorée, un confort de roulage plus raffiné et un meilleur équilibre global comparé à la génération précédente E30. Avec son moteur six cylindres en ligne atmosphérique, sa configuration propulsion et sa construction relativement légère, la 325is proposait une expérience de conduite engageante qui l’a rendue populaire tant sur route que dans les compétitions amateurs. La voiture atteignait une vitesse maximale de 145 mph (233 km/h) et offrait la dynamique de conduite classique BMW qui a défini la marque dans les années 1990. La E36 325is a été remplacée en 1995 par la 328is, équipée d’une version plus grosse de 2,8 litres du moteur six cylindres en ligne de BMW.
