O Honda Civic Type R FK8 representa o topo de linha de desempenho da décima geração do Civic, produzido entre 2017 e 2021 como um hot hatch dianteira que estabeleceu novos parâmetros para tempos de voltas em Nürburgring e capacidade em pista para veículos FWD. Movido pelo motor 2.0L turbo K20C1 de quatro cilindros em linha, com 306 cavalos de potência a 6.500rpm e 295 lb-ft de torque, acoplado exclusivamente a uma transmissão manual de seis marchas que transmite a força às rodas dianteiras por meio de um diferencial de deslizamento limitado helicoidal, o FK8 entregou uma envelope de desempenho sem precedentes em relação ao seu antecessor naturalmente aspirado FK2. Pesando 3.117 libras, o Type R alcançou dinâmicas notáveis de peso-potência, permitindo aceleração de 0-60mph em 4,9 segundos e velocidade máxima superior a 169mph, enquanto o pacote aerodinâmico agressivo, com asa traseira proeminente, splitter dianteiro e carroceria esculpida, gerava downforce genuína em vez de meros efeitos estéticos. A suspensão utilizava amortecedores adaptativos, geometria de McPherson dupla no eixo dianteiro que eliminava torque steer e um conjunto traseiro multibraço que proporcionava equilíbrio de condução excepcional, quebrando preconceitos sobre as limitações dos FWD, ao registrar o tempo de volta de 7:43.8 no Nürburgring Nordschleife e garantindo o recorde para carros de produção FWD na época de seu lançamento. O interior apresentava bancos esportivos revestidos em Alcantara com suporte lateral exemplar, emblemas vermelhos Type R distribuídos pela cabine, painel digital exibindo dados de desempenho em tempo real, incluindo força-G e pressão do turbo, além de surpreendente praticidade hatchback que mantinha a usabilidade diária apesar do foco hardcore em performance. A produção abrangeu a especificação inicial de 2017-2018 e a reestilização de 2020, que introduziu atualizações cosméticas menores, afinação refinada dos amortecedores e sistema de infotainment aprimorado, mantendo o pacote mecânico central. As variantes de edição limitada incluíram as cores Championship White e Sonic Gray Pearl, homenageando os esquemas de cores históricos do Type R, além da versão Sport Line para mercados europeus, que trazia visual externo mais discreto ao eliminar a asa traseira para compradores que preferiam uma estética stealth. O FK8 competiu diretamente com Volkswagen Golf R, Ford Focus RS e Renault Megane RS no segmento hardcore dos hot hatch, destacando-se pela filosofia de transmissão exclusiva manual, dinâmicas de condução naturalmente envolventes e compromisso inabalável com a configuração FWD, enquanto os concorrentes adotavam cada vez mais sistemas AWD. A produção foi concluída em 2021 com a última variante Limited Edition, na cor Sunlight Yellow e rodas forjadas BBS leves, sendo sucedida pela décima primeira geração FL5 Type R, que continuou a evolução da motorização turbo, com chassi revisado e design exterior polarizador.
