1995: The Integra Type R DC2 debuted in Japan with a 1.8L B18C DOHC VTEC engine producing 197 hp and 134 lb-ft of torque. Key features included a close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission, a helical limited-slip differential, lightweight body panels, and a high-revving engine with hand-polished ports. Suspension and chassis reinforcements made the Type R a capable track car, while weight-saving measures like a thinner windshield and reduced sound insulation further enhanced performance.
1997: The Integra Type R was introduced in the United States as a limited edition. It shared many features with the Japanese version, though the U.S. model produced 195 hp due to emissions standards. Key features included a stripped-down interior, Recaro seats, and a strengthened chassis. The U.S. version retained much of the Japanese Type R’s track-focused design and performance specs, though it lacked some weight-saving features.
1998: Japan saw minor updates, with slight changes to interior materials and optional air conditioning. In the U.S., the Type R was offered in Championship White and Phoenix Yellow colors. Mechanical improvements included strengthened suspension components and slight adjustments to the engine management system for durability and emissions compliance.
2000: Japan received a refreshed version with updated aesthetics, including new headlights, taillights, and slightly revised bumpers. Some engine tuning adjustments were made for a smoother power delivery, while the interior saw minor updates, including optional climate control and additional trim options.
2001: The Type R returned to the U.S. for its final production years with similar specs to the previous models. It was available primarily in Phoenix Yellow and Championship White. Minor improvements were made to interior materials and sound insulation, though performance remained largely unchanged.
