Shanghai Tianma Circuit Notes
Shanghai Tianma Circuit, located in Songjiang District, Shanghai, China, opened in 2004 and quickly became a popular venue for motorsport in the region. It was envisioned as a more accessible and compact alternative to the Formula 1 Shanghai International Circuit, catering to club racing and domestic series.

The track layout is a technical and challenging 2.063 kilometer (1.282 mile) circuit featuring 14 turns. It's known for its tight, flowing design that demands precision and car control. The infield section is particularly intricate, with a series of medium-speed corners that require drivers to maintain momentum. Notable corners include the fast, sweeping Turn 1, which leads directly into a complex sequence of turns. The final sector, leading onto the main straight, is crucial for setting up overtaking opportunities.

Tianma Circuit has an asphalt surface and is relatively flat, with minimal elevation changes. This puts the emphasis on mechanical grip and optimizing the car's setup for cornering performance. The short straights and abundance of corners mean that horsepower is less of a factor than handling and braking.

The circuit hosts a variety of racing events, including the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), the China GT Championship, and various club-level races and track days. It also serves as a venue for driver training and promotional events.

What makes Tianma Circuit unique is its technical nature within a relatively small footprint. The tight confines and demanding corners reward drivers who can maintain a consistent rhythm and manage their tires effectively. The lack of long straights means that overtaking can be challenging, requiring drivers to be opportunistic and precise in their maneuvers.

While it may not host Formula 1, Shanghai Tianma Circuit has played a significant role in developing motorsport talent and fostering a passion for racing within China. Specific race records can fluctuate depending on the series and regulations.
