La Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C7 avec le pack Performance Z51 représente la spécification idéale de la septième génération de Corvette, produite de 2014 à 2019 en tant que variante orientée passionnés, équilibrant l’aptitude quotidienne, les capacités sur circuit et la proposition de valeur au sein de cette icône américaine. Animée par un V8 LT1 6,2L atmosphérique développant 455 chevaux à 6 000 tr/min et 460 lb-pi de couple (ou 460 ch/465 lb-pi avec l’échappement performance en option), disponible avec une boîte manuelle à sept rapports ou une automatique à huit rapports, la Stingray offrait des performances convaincantes surpassant la génération C6 tout en améliorant le raffinement et la vie quotidienne. Le pack Z51 ciblait spécifiquement les conducteurs enthousiastes grâce à des améliorations complètes, notamment un différentiel à glissement limité à commande électronique, les amortisseurs adaptatifs Magnetic Ride Control, des freins plus grands avec étriers Brembo, un système de lubrification à carter sec évitant la perte d’huile lors des virages prolongés, le refroidissement de la transmission et du différentiel, ainsi qu’un rapport de pont final spécifique optimisant l’accélération. Les améliorations aérodynamiques comprenaient un splitter avant et un aileron arrière générant une force d’appui fonctionnelle, tandis que le châssis bénéficiait de barres antiroulis plus rigides et d’une suspension orientée performance permettant d’atteindre une accélération latérale de 1,0g et des temps au tour compétitifs sur circuits à travers le pays. Affichant un poids de 3 298 livres, la Stingray Z51 proposait un rapport poids-puissance remarquable, permettant d’abattre le 0-60 mph en 3,8 secondes avec la boîte automatique et réalisant des temps au quart de mile dans la fourchette basse des 12 secondes, des performances rivalisant avec des voitures exotiques coûtant deux fois son prix de 60 000 à 70 000 dollars. Les pneumatiques proposés incluaient les Michelin Pilot Super Sport été offrant un excellent équilibre d’adhérence, bien que les utilisateurs sérieux sur circuit optaient souvent pour les Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slicks afin de maximiser l’adhérence mécanique.
