1991: Mazda introduced the optional limited-slip differential (LSD) on models equipped with a manual transmission, improving traction and handling.
1993: Power increased slightly to 120 hp due to minor engine tweaks. Mazda released the LE (Limited Edition) trim with a black exterior, red leather interior, and BBS wheels.
1994: The Miata received a new 1.8L engine with 128 hp, replacing the 1.6L. To handle the extra power, the car got larger brakes, additional chassis bracing, and slightly revised suspension tuning. This year also saw the introduction of the R Package, which included a sport-tuned suspension, front and rear spoilers, and LSD.
1996: Mazda removed the OBD-I diagnostic system and replaced it with OBD-II to meet new regulations. This change also included updates to the engine control unit for better emissions management.
1997: Final production year for the NA Miata, with minimal changes as Mazda prepared for the second-generation NB Miata.
