Carolina Motorsports Park Notes

The Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) is a purpose-built raceway designed by the famous racetrack architect Alan Wilson, constructed on what used to be the runway of an airport in Kershaw, South Carolina, an hour trip away to either Columbia, SC or Charlotte, NC.  It is the only permanent road course in the Carolinas, and it houses club activities and open track days since 1999. The CMP includes the 14-turn, 2.27-mile (3.65-km) main road course, a karting track, and a skidpad.  There are 218 sunny days on average in Kershaw and moderate rainfall throughout the year, so it's imperative to check the weather forecast regularly as track conditions may change suddenly.

The Raceway in CMP runs clockwise and is customizable in three different layouts:  the Full Course, the 0.98-mile (1.58-km) West Course, and the 1.24-mile (1.99-km) East Course. There are 14 turns in the Full Course, which starts near the end of the 1652 feet front straight away, right before entering turn one, a 90-degree left-hander. Turns 2 to 4 are fast sweepers and turns five to seven add up to form at the 180-degree curve leading into the back straight. At that point starts the fast sector of the track, which stops when reaching the 140-degree left-hander turn number 11, immediately followed by turn 12, another 140-degrees turn to the opposite direction. Finally, the circuit ends after a 120-degrees turn number 14 to close the loop in the front straightaway.
