Eagles Canyon Raceway Notes

Eagles Canyon Raceway is a racing facility where motorsports enthusiasts and aspiring racers can feel the speed with their vehicles on a World-Class road course designed according to FIA specifications. It is located 1-hour away from Dallas, in Decatur, Texas. It operates as a country club for members who register for regular track activities like amateur races, performance driving training, and competitions organized by the SCCA (for those drivers with the required license). The climate at the Eagles Canyon Raceway location is of the humid subtropical type, with 236 sunny days per year, a rainy summer, and mild, dry winter with less than an inch of snow a year.

There are a total of 15 turns in Eagles Canyon Raceway, which features a 0.5-mile long back straightaway where reaching velocities as high as 130 mph (210 km/h) is not rare. The road course is suitable for clockwise and counterclockwise racing and is configurable into a shorter, 1.65-mile CCW version. Racing on Eagles Canyon Raceway requires full attention and high technical skills from the drivers, as there are constant elevation changes and ups and downs throughout the whole course trajectory. The circuit has 90-degree turns snaking one after the other, fast sweepers, and long straightaways that end in heavy braking zones facing curves with several apexes. Eagles Canyon Raceway will satisfy the hunger for track time for even the most demanding drivers.

2.7 miles CCW Notes

Eagles Canyon Raceway's 2.7-mile counterclockwise configuration delivers 4.345 kilometers of Texas Hill Country's most dramatic elevation-driven circuit, featuring 15 turns and over 61 meters of vertical change carved into forested landscape 80 kilometers northwest of Fort Worth near Decatur in eastern Wise County. Built to FIA specifications with 12-15 meter width on straights and 40-48 feet throughout corners, this 2009 facility's full-length layout combines a 805-meter back straight rewarding aerodynamic efficiency with technical uphill-downhill sections through Turns 2-10 where blind crests and off-camber exits test commitment and chassis setup. The counterclockwise direction starts northwest into Turn 1's 90-degree corner before sliding downhill through Turns 2-4's descent, climbing back through Turn 5, then snaking downhill again through the signature Turns 6-10 combination that defines Eagles Canyon's elevation challenge.

The 2.7 CCW configuration's character derives from relentless elevation transitions and diverse corner types. Sweepers, esses, switchbacks, carousels, and double-apex turns create technical variety demanding different approaches corner-to-corner, while the 805-meter back straight enables 250+ kph speeds before heavy braking into Turn 11's complex. Turns 6-10's downhill plunge presents the circuit's signature challenge—blind entries over crests require memorized brake points, while compression zones mid-corner unsettle aero platforms and test suspension travel. Texas Hill Country climate creates summer track temperatures exceeding 50°C with high humidity contrasting crisp fall and spring conditions, affecting tire strategy significantly across 4.3-kilometer laps. The facility's FIA-grade infrastructure and multiple configuration options (including 2.66-kilometer and 1.65-mile variants both CW and CCW) attract regional club racing, national series rounds, and serious track day organizations. Eagles Canyon's counterclockwise full-length layout particularly rewards drivers mastering downhill brake-turn transitions and elevation-change weight transfer, separating confident locals from cautious first-timers navigating Texas's most vertical road racing challenge.
